Kara is a girl group from South Korea, created in 2007 by producer Daesung Entertainment (DSP). Kara means "sweet song" in Greek.

The band was originally called "2nd Fin.KL" (2 Fin.KL) by its similarity with the former band of singer Lee Hyori.

Park Gyuri was a child actress and in another company before she left and auditioned for DSP. She was picked as Kara's leader not only because she was one of the older members but also because of her abilities as a singer and dancer. She also chose KARA's name.
Her mother is a dubber and Gyuri has inherited that talent. She often does her own voice imitations of Jadu and Gummy.

Jung auditioned for DSP Entertainment from the United States. She lived in Arizona and California and moved to Korea with her mother once she was accepted. Behind-the-scenes videos of the group's early days either explicitly state or demonstrate that Nichole was still struggling with the Korean language. She wrote the rap lyrics for KARA's first album and also came up with the "Yo Jump" for Rock U in the choreography. Considered the emotionally strongest member in KARA, others come to her for help and guidance when facing difficulties.
